. . . Cookie Time Tuesday -- Valentine's Day Chocolate Chip Cookies . . .

This recipe was found at Made Famous By Blog (a great blog if you haven't visited before).  I wanted mine to have a bit of a pop so I added several Valentine's M&Ms to the top of each cookie for a little extra color.  These cookies make quite a few so it's perfect to send in with your kids for the classmates or take them to work to share as a special Valentine's Day Treat.

You will love these!

You will need:
1 lb. Butter
1 ½ C. Sugar
2 C Brown Sugar
3 Eggs
2 tsp. Vanilla
6 Cups Flour
½ tsp. Salt
1 ½ tsp. Baking Powder
Neon Pink Food Dye
  1 Bag of Chocolate Chips

 Gather your ingredients
Mix butter and sugars together until well combined
Add eggs and vanilla and beat well
Add dry ingredients to the sugar mixture and mix well

Add food coloring to the dough (I used Rose by Wilton)
Mix until completely pink or the color you are trying to acheive
Add chocolate chips
Mix well so the chips are incorporated through the dough

Scoop onto a cookie sheet with a cookie scoop or roll in balls.  Press a few M&Ms into the top of each cookie.  Bake and cool on a wire rack.

 Sinfully Good!

I hope you enjoy this recipe!

  9. I could't find pink food coloring at my local store so I mixed in Betty Crocker Red Gel Food Coloring with some water and it turned the dough pink!

  10. Is it 1lb of butter or 2, because the picture shows 4 long sticks which is 2 lbs, but the recipy says 1. I made these tonight and it was very hard to mix in flour, I figured it was because of the butter.

    1. Hi Ivy
Two sticks is one cup and four sticks is one pound. That could be different in other parts of the country or world but as far as any butter I buy four sticks is one pound. I hope this helps. I'm so sorry for the confusion.

  12. Hi I really love these cookies and I am going to make these for my daughters first grade valentines day party and I need to know which exact pink wilton dye did you use...icing...candy gel?

  13. @Ivy Oneill -- the picture actually shows one pound of butter. The "long sticks" are 8 Tbsp, or 1/2 cup. 4 sticks is equal to 2 cups or 1 pound (although most recipes will call for the butter in cups more commonly). The "short sticks" that you are thinking of are 4 Tbsp and 4 of them equal 1 cup or .5 lbs, not 1. Also, make sure that all ingredients are at room temperature (butter and eggs). This makes it easier to mix the ingredients well. If you were mixing by hand, it will be harder to mix due to the volume of the recipe. You can reduce the recipe by half and make two separate batches if that's easier. :) Best of luck baking!

    1. Kaitlin, I wish I knew what to tell you but the original recipe didn't say how many it made and I can't recall now that it has been so long ago that I last made them. I do recall that I had a lot of cookies out of the recipe. I'm so sorry to not have a great answer.

And how long should they bake?
I didn't see it in the recipe, but maybe I'm just missing it.

  23. Could I use ready to bake cookie dough and add food coloring ? For fast hot pink cookies? Do u think the color would be the same?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rachelle, I would think that you could add food coloring to the store bought cookie dough but I don't know for sure since I've never done it that way. If you try it and it works well for you let me know! Good Luck!

I am not sure how many dozen it makes because the original recipe didn't say and it has been a long time since I made them. I know I had a lot of cookies but I don't have an exact amount. Good luck with them. I hope you enjoy them.

    1. I get my gel food coloring from Michael's or Hobby Lobby. You don't usually see it in the grocery store. Good luck with your search.

  28. I am baking these as we speak. I am doing half the recipe and I think that my kitchen would have been better because this is some heavy duty stuff for this dough lol. Recipe was super easy and half the recipe is a lot of cookies and the pink adds a nice color. I definitely added some peanut butter valentine's day m&m's. Will make these again!
