. . . no sew infinity scarf from a t-shirt . . .

I love love love scarves!  I like that they make me warm and cozy on a cold day but also that they really dress up any outfit.  I have several infinity scarves and love them but they are so long that I have to wrap them around my neck three times and then I look kind of like a clown because they are so bulky.  No one wants to look like a clown.

I was shopping this past weekend and saw a whole selection of knit infinity scarves and they were not very long so they were just the right "fullness".  I didn't buy one because I had the brainstorm to use t-shirts to make them myself.  The best part is that you don't have to sew anything!  Have I BLOWN Your Mind?  I now want to search Goodwill for every funky knit shirt I can find so I can make a ton of these.  So simple and they look great.

All you need is a pair of scissors and t-shirts.

*One thing to keep in mind is that you want at least an XL or XXL sized shirt because of the length you will need.  I used men's shirts that my husband had but you can find tons of t-shirts in larger sizes at any store and of course any thrift shop.  I used t-shirts that had side seams but these scarves would be great using a shirt that had no side seams.

A pile of t-shirts and scissors are the two things you need to have on hand.

Lay your shirt out flat making sure the hem matches up

Cut the shirt just above the hem so you have a "raw" edge on your scarf.

Then cut the t-shirt right under the arm holes so you end up with a rectangle of fabric.

Step inside the "loop" of your scarf and stretch it upright as much as you can so it gets as long as it can get so you have enough length to wrap around your neck.

Here you go!  You will get one scarf out of each t-shirt.  This one is my favorite with the gray fabric and black flecks but I made a ton of them out of shirts I had.

Here are just a few infinity scarves I made

Now you need to run to the closet or to the store to get some t-shirts to make your own scarves!

Love these!  Wouldn't these make great gifts?

  3. Love these. I made a couple several years ago and gave them away as gifts, except one grey one I kept for myself and wear all the time. I think I should make some more pretty ones like yours.

  4. Ok, this is seriously brilliant- I love infinity scarves, but don't know how to knit or crochet, and don't want to learn. I need to go steal some tshirts out of hubby's stash. Thanks for a great idea!
